Illinois needs paid sick days NOW!

Illinois legislators are poised to return to Springfield this week, during which they will only have a few days to deal with urgent legislation and the budget. The need for statewide paid sick days MUST be one of those urgent issues, particularly during this COVID-19 pandemic, and our leaders need to ACT NOW to protect Illinois workers and our state’s public health. While you may have contacted your state elected officials about this before, NOW is the time to remind them that we CANNOT WAIT ANY LONGER for paid sick days for workers statewide.

Now more than ever, it is clear that we need guaranteed paid sick days for all workers so that they do not have to choose between their job and their health. Paid sick days are essential for healthy economies and communities, and an important step in helping to curb further spread of disease like COVID-19. Without them, workers will be forced to go to work sick and potentially infect others to keep their paycheck and, possibly, their job. Please take one minute of your time to contact your legislators and ask them to support SB 471, The Healthy Workplace Act, NOW, to guarantee 5 permanent paid sick days and ensure the economic and physical well-being of Illinois workers now and in the future.
