Urgent: Stop An Anti-Worker Bill
Tell Illinois legislators to OPPOSE SB 208 HA 2 because preemption is bad for workers!
SB 208 HA 2 could be voted on this weekend, as Illinois’ legislative session ends on May 31. However, while this bill includes paid leave, it is very problematic in that it includes a preemption clause, meaning that the state’s law will override local leave ordinances AND prevent cities from strengthening or changing laws in the future. We continue to support paid leave for Illinois workers, but not at the expense of progress in the future or limitations on a local governments’ ability to meet the needs of their communities.
Preemption is too dangerous a policy and precedent! Illinois needs to set a floor for paid leave, not a ceiling, so tell your legislator to vote NO on SB 208 HA 2.
