Tell the Senate HELP Committee: Vote NO on Andrea Lucas

Reject Her Nomination for a Second Term on the EEOC

With increasing concerns about workplace rights and protections across the country, we need an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) leader who will fight FOR equity, not against it. And in her role as Acting EEOC Chair, Andrea Lucas has consistently proven that she is unfit for the job. We ask that you contact the members of the Senate HELP Committee today—you don’t have to be a constituent—and urge them reject Andrea Lucas’s nomination for a second term.

Vote No on Andrea Lucas

Andrea Lucas has not only prioritized the administration’s anti-civil rights agenda over the agency’s legal obligations to workers, but has also:

  • Abandoned enforcement of anti-discrimination laws on behalf of transgender workers.
  • Weaponized the EEOC to intimidate businesses and sow confusion around the legality of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility practices that help create equal opportunity for workers.
  • Tried to coerce states into conforming with her agenda, which would result in state and local agencies losing funding, making it more difficult for them to:
    • Investigate charges involving disparate impact discrimination or discrimination based on gender identity,
    • Hold employers who discriminate accountable,
    • Provide relief to workers whose rights have been violated

The EEOC is supposed to ensure equal opportunity for workers in the United States, by enforcing laws prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity), race, national origin, age, disability, and religion. Andrea Lucas has regularly overstepped her authority and taken several actions that undermine the EEOC’s mission to protect the civil rights of all workers. She has demonstrated that she is not committed to the integrity of the EEOC and should not serve a second term.

TAKE ACTION

Call as many members of the Senate HELP Committee as you are able—even if you are not their constituent, they need to hear from YOU! Here’s a sample script to use when making your calls:

  • Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I live in [CITY, STATE]. I am calling to urge you to vote NO on Andrea Lucas for EEOC Commissioner.
  • The EEOC is supposed to ensure equal opportunity for all workers in the U.S. by fighting against discrimination. But Andrea Lucas has proven that she will prioritize the administration’s political agenda over the legal obligations of the EEOC.
  • Lucas has regularly overstepped her authority and taken several actions that undermine the EEOC’s mission to protect the civil rights of all workers.
  • She has opposed workplace rights for transgender workers, limited accommodations under the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), and voted against the EEOC’s updated Enforcement Guidance on Workplace Harassment and the Final Rule to implement the PWFA—critical resources that help actualize protections for all workers.
  • Andrea Lucas is NOT the leader we need in the EEOC. Please reject her nomination.

Things to Note

  • You can call officials at either their DC office or their district/local office. They will receive messages in both places.
  • You might end up speaking to the legislator’s staffer or intern. That’s okay! You can use the same call script with them, and they will deliver the message to your senator.
  • You might get a voicemail. That’s also okay! Again, you can use the same call script, and just leave it as a voicemail.
  • You can call after business hours! You may not speak to a live person, but you can still leave a voicemail and your message will get through.
  • Not getting through? Don’t give up! We know they are getting lots of calls. Keep calling, and try their other office, too!
