Stand Up for Students. Demand Your Senators Vote NO on Linda McMahon.

UPDATE: Linda McMahon Has Been Confirmed

The Senate voted to confirm Linda McMahon on March 3rd. Thank you to all who took action. Please stay tuned for other actions you can take to help protect the Department of Education.

Everyone deserves the right to a quality and affordable education. The Department of Education is a civil rights agency and is responsible for advancing equity in education, ensuring access, and protecting students from discrimination. The Trump Administration has nominated Linda McMahon to serve as the Secretary of Education, and the Senate HELP Committee has advanced her nomination to the full Senate.

During her Senate HELP Committee hearing, McMahon confirmed that she will continue her history of, and stated commitment to, supporting President Trump’s agenda of discrimination and exclusion. She does not deserve the support of the Senate, who is scheduled to vote TODAY on her nomination.

Tell Your Senators: Vote NO on Linda McMahon

Here are just a few of the reasons Linda McMahon is unfit for the job:

  • Misrepresented her own educational background
  • Named in a lawsuit claiming she failed to act on reports of sexual abuse of minors in the WWE
  • Does not understand or support the needs of students from groups historically and currently facing barriers to education
  • Will execute President Trump’s agenda to decimate the Department of Education

We need a Secretary of Education who is committed to civil rights, equal opportunity, and nondiscrimination, and will ensure that all students have the chance to learn, grow, and thrive. Not someone who will use the office to undermine civil protections and deny equal opportunities. If children are denied an education, it affects them for the rest of their lives. We have to get this right, especially for the low-income students, students with disabilities, and student loan borrowers who rely on the Department of Education the most. And considering Linda McMahon’s criticism of civil rights and marginalized communities, she is not in support of helping ALL students to achieve their dreams.

Call your senators right now—before they vote today. Urge them to vote NO on Linda McMahon for Secretary of Education. The future of our students depends on it.

TAKE ACTION

Here’s a sample script to use when making your calls:

  • Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] and as your constituent, I am calling to urge you to vote NO on Linda McMahon as Secretary of Education. She is not qualified for this position, and doesn’t have our students’ best interests at heart.
  • She has misrepresented her own educational background.
  • She was named in a lawsuit claiming she failed to act on reports of sexual abuse of minors in the WWE.
  • She does not understand or support the needs of students from groups historically and currently facing barriers to education.
  • She will execute President Trump’s agenda to decimate the Department of Education.
  • Linda McMahon is not the leader we need in the Department of Education! Please vote no!

Things to Note

  • You can call your officials at either their DC office or their district/local office. They will receive messages in both places.
  • You might end up speaking to your legislator’s staffer or intern. That’s okay! You can use the same call script with them, and they will deliver the message to your senator.
  • You might get a voicemail. That’s also okay! Again, you can use the same call script, and just leave it as a voicemail.
  • You can call after business hours! You may not speak to a live person, but you can still leave a voicemail and your message will get through.
  • Not getting through? Don’t give up! We know they are getting lots of calls. Keep calling, and try their other office, too!

Learn More About the Department of Education

The Trump administration is following the Project 2025 playbook in escalating the threats to the Department of Education. Dismantling or diminishing the Department of Education puts student loans, funds for lower-income communities, college financial aid, support for children with disabilities, and tracking of student achievement at risk. Contrary to his rhetoric, the Department of Education was established by Congress, and cannot be dismantled by executive action.
