Tell Your Senators: Vote NO on the Big, Bad, Budget Bill

Protect Women, Immigrants, Seniors, Trans Folks, People with Disabilities, Low-Income Families, and More

The House recently passed the Trump administration’s massive budget reconciliation bill (H.R. 1, aka the “big, beautiful bill”). But the bill’s nickname can’t mask its ugly intent. If you’re a woman, a parent, a student, an immigrant, in the working class, someone who needs affordable healthcare, a senior, working in a low-paid job, a trans person—or just a person who values the humanity of your neighbors—this bill could have devastating consequences.

We can still stop this sweeping and dangerous piece of legislation in the Senate. It’s vital that you make your voice heard — to be informed, speak out, and fight for what’s right!

Vote No on the Big Bad Bill

So, what’s really at stake? This bill is complicated and it touches on so many areas of our lives. Healthcare, reproductive and gender-affirming care, student loans, long-term care, the Child Tax Credit, Medicaid, SNAP, and so much more will be impacted. We’ve got a breakdown on Medium to help you focus on a few areas that we think are particularly important right now, particularly for women and their families.

This is your moment to take action. Call your senators, and demand they vote NO on the budget reconciliation bill, and work to persuade their colleagues to do the same. We need you to urge the Senate to prevent this big, bad bill from becoming reality. Together, we can make a real difference in safeguarding programs and services we all need.

TAKE ACTION

Call BOTH of your U.S. Senators (you have two). Here’s a sample script to use when making your calls:

  • Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I live in [CITY, STATE]. I’m calling to demand you vote no on the president’s budget reconciliation bill.

  • This is not a beautiful bill. It is a big, bad bill. And it will threaten the lives and livelihoods of people all across the country—including right here in our state.

  • By attacking affordable healthcare, coverage for long-term care, nutrition assistance, the Child Tax Credit, financial aid, and so much more, it puts millions of people at risk, and decimates the ability of lower-income families to care for their families, lift themselves out of poverty, and thrive.

  • We cannot allow the U.S. to become a country where only the wealthy can survive.

  • I urge you, in the strongest terms possible, to vote NO on the budget reconciliation bill—and any budget bill that removes access to life-sustaining programs that American families need.

  • Thank you.

Things to Note

  • You can call your officials at either their DC office or their district/local office. They will receive messages in both places.
  • You might end up speaking to your legislator’s staffer or intern. That’s okay! You can use the same call script with them, and they will deliver the message to your senator.
  • You might get a voicemail. That’s also okay! Again, you can use the same call script, and just leave it as a voicemail.
  • You can call after business hours! You may not speak to a live person, but you can still leave a voicemail and your message will get through.
  • Not getting through? Don’t give up! We know they are getting lots of calls. Keep calling, and try their other office, too!
