Getting Less Than Minimum: Ending a Legacy of Slavery
March 25, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm CDT
For most of us, tipping after a meal is second nature. But what you may not know is that workers who earn tips are paid a subminimum wage, which is direct legacy of slavery, and a major factor in alarming rates of harassment and wage theft experienced by women—especially Black and Brown women—in service industries. And that’s no accident—it’s how the system was designed. Join us for a conversation on why we cannot advance racial justice, gender equity, and workplace safety without eliminating the subminimum tipped wage and enacting one full and fair wage.
