Paid Sick Days & COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has made it clear that providing all working people with paid sick days isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s critical to ensure public safety. If workers aren’t assured that they will be able to afford necessities and take care of their families if and when they’re sick, many will be left with no choice but to still go to work—putting the wider public at risk.
In Illinois, an estimated 1.5 million workers do not have access to a single paid sick day. They are often considered “essential” during the COVID-19 crisis, working in healthcare, grocery stores, restaurants.
No one should have to choose between their health—or their life—and a livelihood. The time is NOW for Illinois to provide paid sick days to all workers.
