2026 is the year to engage in our democracy. One of the most important ways you can get involved in promoting the freedom to vote and keeping our elections fair and accessible is by serving as a poll worker!

A poll worker is an individual temporarily hired by a local government to help facilitate voting, in different roles, on an election day at a designated polling place. You can learn more about poll worker requirements in Illinois here: https://ballotpedia.org/Poll_worker_requirements_in_Illinois

Voting by mail is the safest way to cast a ballot for many voters, whether they are immunocompromised, have a disability, lack of transport, work commitments, or family responsibilities. Diverse voting methods strengthen the U.S. democracy, breaking down access barriers that might otherwise exclude voters from making their voices heard. NEW RULE ALERT: USPS has changed the way that mail is postmarked. Mail will now be postmarked on the day it is processed, NOT the day it is dropped in the mail.

• That means your mail-in ballot could be invalidated, even if you drop it in the mail before the March 17th deadline.
• Complete and mail your ballot as soon as possible, several days before the deadline.
• Go into your post office and ask the clerk to postmark your ballot at the counter.
